Christmas Decorating Two Ways: Neutral or Colorful Glam

I was just talking to someone the other day about how much I love it that Christmas décor these days is sort of “whatever goes”! A lot of people have leaned away from traditional décor and are adopting more of a colorful approach, while still others enjoy a much more natural and neutral color palette.

I love to look at other people’s homes for inspiration for my Christmas decorating…because everyone does it so differently! Between ornaments and decorations, that have been handed down over the years, to newer items they’ve picked up at different retailers…there couldn’t possibly be the same combination in any two homes!

I don’t do a lot of decorating for other holidays, but I do love to make our house feel festive and cozy for Christmas. I’ve been collecting different Christmas décor for years, but always like to add a few new pieces every year to make the space itself and my older things feel fresher! If you’ve been around here long, you know that I looooove color and incorporate it in everything that I do! It makes me so happy and makes the holiday season seem even more special to me.

We have always had a real tree (this picture is from last year…since we haven’t gotten our tree yet for this year), but I’m working on adding a faux tree to the mix as well. Since I like to decorate earlier in the season…a fake tree would make it so much easier! I have my eyes on a few

The other thing that I’ve added for our tree in the last couple of years is a tree collar. I think it helps the tree look so clean and just amps up the style a bit. They come in lots of different styles, too, depending on what you prefer.

I’ve shared a little snippet of my christmas decorating, but I’m also excited to be partnering with Wayfair to bring you two completely different Christmas mood boards, to hopefully inspire your holiday decorating this year!
Now, you can tell that I love color…that’s no secret from my own Christmas décor, but I thought I’d give it a little different of a spin from our decorations. This Colorful Glam mood board is just giving me life right now. I love the pink and gold tones…with plenty of white thrown-in to keep it classy and give it a wintery feel.

First…can you even with that pink tree?? Can you see why I need it in my life? I accented it with a few other blush pink and berry-colored décor pieces…in the Christmas ornaments, the amazing side chair (I’m swooning over it’s brushed-gold base), and then the pink trees in the artwork. I pulled the gold from the chair and added it in again with the stocking holder and lantern. I love pink, white, and black together…so I brought black (and some pattern in) with the buffalo check blanket and stockings, and the throw pillows. There’s lots of yummy white to balance everything out and keep it wintery, with the tree collar, garland, and the glittery Christmas village décor…with just a touch of light green added. The final glam got added to the mood board with the glitzy tree topper (a mix of silver and gold) and the silver finial Christmas ornaments (silver). I’m all about mixing metals, so the silver and gold in this Christmas mood board is balanced and makes everything seem a little extra special.

Sometimes deciding on décor can be tough for me. Even though I know that I love bright and colorful, I’m still drawn to simpler décor as well…with more of a natural feel. That’s why creating the Neutral Christmas mood board was just as easy as the Colorful Glam one.

I was instantly drawn to this flocked tree. I’ve been seeing them all over Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, so, of course, I would love one to incorporate into our home. Once I picked the tree, the perfect tree topper and tree collar presented themselves right away. I love the woven look of the tree collar and the intricate details of the tree topper. Once those pieces were chosen, I started adding in more neutral details, in the barrel chair, pre-lit flocked garland, ornaments, tree garland, wood sign, and that adorable deer! The natural elements continue with the wood stocking holder and knit stockings. The feeling this mood board evokes is pure coziness. I can picture a fire going and curling up with a good book! The last element I wanted to include in the Neutral Christmas Mood Board was a dash of red! I know some people don’t want any color, but red is so natural in nature! I love all the crisp, neutral details, with just a bit of the warmth of red woven in. The lanterns and throw pillow are the perfect way to tie it into the décor.

The fun thing about both the mood boards I created is that elements from both can easily work together to create a completely new and original Christmas look! There aren’t any end-all answers to how you should decorate your holiday home or any other time of year. All that matters is that, the elements you choose make you happy, and create a warm and inviting place to gather with family and friends!
