During the holidays, it’s always fun to have some easy DIY craft projects to work on.They help to brighten our spaces and give us something fun to do with all the bounty of the season! I was able to score HUGE bags of cranberries at Costco for $1.99 each after Thanksgiving. I had already added some around potted holiday plants for some polish and love to put them in my holiday simmer pots, but I thought of another fun way to put them to use around the house! Christmas candle bowls!
I was thrifting recently and came across someone’s entire collection of vintage Franciscan Ware dishes. I was over the moon for them with their lovely pastel colors. I wanted all the pieces but knew I would quickly be overwhelmed with them in our house.I would have bought the plates to use for our everyday dishes, but they’re not dishwasher friendly, so that was an easy “no”.
I did buy a few special pieces including three small bowls(only one had its original lid). The bowls are the perfect size. They could be used for snacks, keys, jewelry… For Christmas, though, I thought they’d be lovely as little candle holders. They’re not candle holders, though, so how would that work?
I pulled out something that everyone should have in their decorating toolbox: museum wax. While it’s usually used to help keep pictures and knick knacks in place, a little dab on the bottom of the candle works great to keep it upright! You don’t need a lot, and it can be reused when you’re done.
Once I got the candle into place, I added a few handfuls of cranberries around the candle. Honestly, this DIY couldn’t get any easier!!
Now, I know the cranberries won’t last forever and that’s ok with me. This is definitely a “for the season” craft…or even just a week or two. If you want it to last longer, you can use faux cranberries, but the fresh make it feel more special. We tend to hold onto things and not use them. This will encourage you to burn the candle and enjoy it before the cranberries cease to be pretty.
I think this would be a fun project to make and give as well! You could thrift almost everything, as the stores are full of bowls and candles. Want to make it a little more special? Include a rechargeable lighter with it! You can also make the Christmas candle bowl a little more long-lasting by using the faux cranberries I mentioned above and a flameless candle. That would be equally as sweet!
I hope you enjoy this easy DIY and try it out for yourself. If you decide to make one (or a few), share a pic on Instagram and tag me so I can see: @hilaryprall.
