Chicken Puffs
I was in a ladies’ bible study, what seems like a lifetime ago, and at one of our Christmas get-togethers, the hostess made these cream cheesy chicken puff things that I was completely obsessed with. I’ve made them a zillion times since then and they change every time because I struggle with using recipes…I sometimes want to just pour and go.
It is good to learn a recipe, though, so you can alter it or fluff it up a bit to better suit your taste or needs and this one for Chicken Puffs is perfect for that! It’s such a good base that you could totally add different flavors or textures too! If you’re into adding different textures…I’m pretty picky about that myself when it comes to food (don’t be throwing nuts into things just willy-nilly).
I ended up taking the ingredients x 4 this time because I made them for a family gathering, froze half, and then used the left-overs for another get-together. Freezing the filling worked perfectly and was easy-peasy to thaw + use!
What You’ll Need:
4 ounces cream cheese (see, why wouldn’t you at least double?!)
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ c. cooked chicken, shredded
2 cans crescent rolls
Directions:
Mix cream cheese + garlic + chicken until well-blended.
Unroll crescent rolls and fill the center of each triangle with 1 tbsp. of filling. I made a little addition here, sprinkling shredded sharp cheddar onto the chicken mixture.
Fold the corners of the crescent roll over the chicken mixture. If you want to use the puffs as a bite-sized appetizer, you can cut each of the crescents in half once they are filled, re-pressing the dough to cover the mixture.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees F for 12-14 minutes, depending on your oven. I take mine out at 12 minutes and allow them to cool on the sheet.
If you wanted to make a meal out of the Chicken Puffs, I would just serve them with a salad and bingo…dinner is served! I’ve also used puff pastry with the filling instead of crescent rolls and it tastes so delicious! You follow all the directions the same way, except you thaw + bake the pastry according to the directions on the package.
Mmmm…puff pastry.
