How to Make Your (Temporary) House Feel like a Home
Ok, friends, I’m not saying that everyone is the same, or every situation is the same, but I am going to generalize here a bit. I talk to a lot of folks about their homes…many of you included…and the consensus is that plenty of you are not in your forever homes. Not only that, but while you’re in your not-forever-homes, you’re just kind of squatting there. Now, I know you’re not really squatting…I mean, the bank won’t let you do that (darn), but I do know that you’re not all making those houses a home for the time you’re in them.
It’s hard to want to spend money on pieces for your house when you don’t plan to stay there long-term, or even to want to hang curtains or anything on the walls. I’m here to tell you, though, that it’s totally worth it and doesn’t have to take a lot of money! Also, if you make the right purchases, you’ll more than likely be able to translate those pieces into your next home…whether it’s forever or not.
Living in a space that makes you happy and that you can truly call home is so important, even if you’re there temporarily. With the right direction, a little work, and a few tips + tricks, making a house a home can be easier and less-expensive than you think!
I worked with some clients recently to help finish their main living space, so they can enjoy their house to its fullest-potential in the time that they’re living there. They also now have pieces that will easily-transition into a new house, when the time comes! It’s a great feeling knowing that you’ll be able to move your current furniture, décor, and accessories into a new space and have them all seamlessly work together, even if it’s in a new way.
If hiring an interior decorator is out of your budget, I would love for you to take advantage of my Custom Mood Boards! The process is quick + easy, plus you’ll get an inspiration board to see how all the pieces I pick out for you will look together in your space AND a clickable shopping list, to make shopping a breeze!
