5 Watering Tips for Happy House Plants

1. Mark it on the calendar: Set one day a week (or more depending on need) to water your houseplants. It’s easy to forget when you did it last, so making a specific day for it will help you keep track!

2. Don’t waste water: Use leftover water for your houseplants instead of pouring it down the drain. Once you start looking, you’ll find water everywhere for your plants: half-used drinking bottles, pet dishes you’re going to change out, and the dehumidifier!

3. Let the water breathe: Fill your watering can and let it sit for 24 hours to let the chemicals evaporate out before using it on your plants.

4. Poke some holes: Soil can become hard and compact over time. Using anything with a small, rounded end, poke holes in the soil around the plant, allowing more air to get into it.

5. Make a cheat sheet: If you can’t remember how much water each plant likes, make a cheat sheet with all the growing details for your plants. Write out the info that comes with the plants when you get them on a notecard, and then laminate the sheet for durability. If you’re unsure of care instructions, you can look it up online or ask the expert at your local nursery!
